Psychotherapy, practiced deliberately.

Who I Work With
I work with adults and teenagers dealing with a wide range of life circumstances and mental health concerns. Some are managing their lives reasonably well; everything looks good on paper, but there's something not quite right. Maybe they are avoiding addressing something, a feeling that won’t go away, or a sense that things aren't quite aligned with how they want to be living. They can’t stop thinking about the past, or don’t know where to go in the future. Sometimes they just need a place to organize their thoughts.
Others are in a harder place. Maybe things were never quite right. Growing up was tougher. Or life has changed in ways they didn’t choose. They may be dealing with a loss, a transition, or a pattern that they can no longer ignore, and they're ready to look at it directly.
Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you're considering working with me.
If you're on the fence, a free consultation call is a good way to find out if we're a good fit. You can also reach me directly at mike@mikeorourke.co.
Psychotherapy
Sessions are around 55 minutes. It’s conversational. You bring what's on your mind. Something you can't stop thinking about, something you're trying to figure out. Whatever is going on in your life. We talk through it, look for patterns, and work toward a clearer understanding of yourself.
People come in dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, relationship stress, life transitions, aging, changes that come with it, and those questions that don't fit neatly into any category.
Some things can change. Others are better faced and accepted. We'll work on both.
I don't follow a single therapeutic model. Research suggests that what drives change in therapy is the quality of the relationship and our ability to adapt our process, not rigid adherence to a single method. In practice, that means we'll experiment, refine what works, and adjust over time.
My role is not to direct your life. It is to help you see it clearly.
About Me
I'm Mike O'Rourke, a psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Candidate in Polson, Montana, where I've lived for over 10 years. I grew up in a military family with farming roots and lived all over the country before settling here.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in corporate operations and higher education, spent years in the arts and hospitality, ran a business, and had more odd jobs than I'd like to admit. Those years brought perspective that a straight path through graduate school wouldn't have. I've spent a long time learning from experience, not just books. People come to therapy from everywhere, and I've found that having lived in many different worlds myself makes it easier to enter yours.
